Karel earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Humber College, where he studied drum set and percussion. During his time at Humber College, he was featured in many of the school's showcase concert series, in such diverse styles as Cuban, Brazilian and Indian styles of music. As well as, being a featured percussionist on the Humber Studio Jazz Ensembles' recording "Fat Cat" alongside legendary saxophonist Donny McCaslin. Recently, Karel has focused on composing original music, that reflects his unique perspective and blends poetry and storytelling, with Jazz, Rock and World Music. Currently, Karel is working in many musical projects, performing in and out of the city of Toronto. Karel teaches drum lessons at Neighbour Note.

Karel is a passionate, dynamic and versatile teacher, performer and songwriter. He has taught one on one, as well as in large groups, ranging in age from 7 to 60. His teaching style is geared towards the individual needs of the student. Karel gets to know each student and tailors their lessons accordingly. He can teach beginner to advanced levels on drum set, as well as various percussion instruments, including pandeiro, congas, repinique and tamborim. Karel teaches a wide range of musical styles including, pop, rock, jazz, hip hop and world music. Karel works closely with each student, in order to tailor a practice regiment that ensures a steady and tangible growth of their musical and artistic goals. He inspires his students by showing them how to have fun with music, as well as breaking through tough learning curves. Karel is looking to pass on the knowledge and experience he has gained during his musical studies and performing and teaching experience to aspiring musicians.
